It is ALWAYS such an honor to be invited into a families most joyful, most private, most miraculous moment in their lives. I've been photographing births since 2009 and it is my favorite moment to photograph. Photographing the mother throughout the difficult process of labor and delivery and capturing their sweet baby take it's first breath, there's nothing else like it in the world.  Very early last Monday morning, I got to witness it again. Congratulations Farley Family! Your baby girl is beautiful!

This lovely little guy was 3 weeks old by the time we got around to shooting his newborn session. First his mommy was terribly sick with the flu then I had a virus. When everyone was finally well enough, we got these pictures! Ahh, he's just too sweet! Congratulations Mark and Adrienne on your precious baby boy!

You really want to get great images of your family. You're looking for qulaity and images that aren't quite so "cookie cutter" and something not beyond what you can afford. Looking through 10 photographers websites, you see each image and decide what you like and what you don't. You read the "about me" sections of the photographers website and wonder what they are like to work with. You're looking for the photographer for you. THIS post is all about me and my business so that you can can make the best choice of photographer for your family.

My name is Heather Smith. I am the sole proprietor of Heather Smith Photography.

This business was started 6.5 years ago out of the love for my family and the images that I captured of them. I wanted to capture those same images for you. I love capturing real life and creating beautiful works of art that you can proudly display on the walls of your home.

I am honest, have a big heart, and at times I am kind to a fault. Because Luke 6:31 says: "Do to others as you would have them do to you" I will treat you with the same respect that I would expect to be given.

My clients know me and respect that I am a wife and mother first, and a photographer second. They know I return emails at nap time and edit images once my boys are tucked into bed at night and home school my kids throughout the day. They know that if their kids get sick and they cancel their session at the last minute that I will be understanding and compassionate, (at times, even bringing soup to my clients home and cold medicine to their door step) and that I happily reschedule their session without any penalties or fees (even when I am out a full days pay) because I AM A WIFE AND MOTHER FIRST. I understand.

In return, my clients are understanding when their sneak peek gets posted a couple days later than expected or their gallery is posted two weeks later than planned because I had a family emergency or my children have been ill. While this may not be “Good Business Practice”, I take pride in the fact that I run my business like I run my life: with morals, values, honesty, love and understanding. And most importantly, FAMILY FIRST.

That being said, yes, I am still running a business. And just like you, I have a mortgage, children, healthcare expenses and bills to pay. Love and care, unfortunately, do not pay for those things. Over the years, as I have built my knowledge and skills, I have slowly raised my prices to accommodate the expenses that come with that. The cost of cameras, lenses, lights, the nearly 30% of taxes on every dollar that I make, packaging materials, workshops and other tools for my business, not to mention the hours I spend with your family, the hours of editing and creating beautiful images for you, the hours it takes away from my family and my children. The combination of all those things will cost you more than a studio like Picture People, but the knowledge, skill and heart that goes into each session, each image is worth far more.

Everything I offer is professional quality. Press printed books, albums and cards, custom designed for you and the highest quality prints and canvases. I don't do anything the “cheap way”. However, from the start of my business I've always known I wouldn't be the photographer for everyone, but that I'd always do my best to remain affordable for anyone that shared the passion for my work and style and wanted a session with me. You get what you pay for and I want everyone to have the opportunity to have those things. That is why on occasion I offer mini sessions, sales and even payment plans when you place your order of $400 or more and even offer a waived session fee when pre-paying for a Premium collection. I also give back to our community, do coat drive sessions and canned food drive sessionsand more each year.

If you love my work and share my belief in great customer service, treating people the way you wish to be treated and your family being your top priority and have a passion for capturing real life moments, then you are the type of client I am looking for, and I am the right photographer for you!

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me! I'd love to hear from you!

Sincerely,

Heather Smith

We trekked through the woods, photographed through the rain and humidity and even got in the lake to get these images. Ashley and Danny were up for anything and I think it really paid off! Every single image is perfection. They are as sweet as they are beautiful and I can't wait to see what's in store for their future!  Enjoy your sneak peek guys!!!
